Catherine Gfeller est née à Neuchâtel (Suisse) en 1966.

Après son diplôme universitaire en histoire de l’art et littérature, elle s’adonne à la photographie ainsi qu'à la vidéo et part vivre à New York (1995 à 2000) avant de s’installer à Paris jusqu’en 2010. A partir de 2010 elle vit entre Paris et Montpellier. 

Depuis 1988 elle a exposé ses travaux dans les galeries et musées de Suisse, France Allemagne, Italie, Angleterre, Belgique, Hollande, Canada, Etats-Unis et Afrique du Sud. Elle a participé aux foires dʼart contemporain comme Art Basel, Art Unlimited, KunstZurich, Armory Show, la Fiac, et Art Bruxelles.

En 2010-2011, l’exposition monographique «Pulsations» a été montrée au Musée des Beaux-Arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds, au Kunstmuseum de Lucerne et au Centre d’Art Contemporain de Sète pour retracer vingt ans de création.

Son travail de plasticienne s'inspire de thèmes urbains revisités par une subjectivité fictionnelle qui aime brouiller les pistes entre réalité et imaginaire. En convoquant photographie, vidéo, installation sonore, Catherine Gfeller crée de véritables univers romanesques qui interprètent notre rapport monde contemporain sous formes d'éclats de sensations, de perceptions, de pensées.

Parallèlement à ces expositions, Catherine Gfeller est invitée à des festivals vidéo ainsi qu’à des conférences ou workshops dans différentes écoles d’art et universités.

En 2013, elle signe avec "Paroles d'artistes/Portraits d'artistes" son premier film.

 

Catherine Gfeller was born in Neuchâtel (Switzerland) in 1966. After earning a degree in art history and literature, she devoted herself to photography and video, and moved to New York (1995 – 2000), before settling in Paris. Since 2010, she has lived between Paris and Montpellier. She has shown her work in galleries and museums since 1988 in Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, England, Belgium, Holland, Canada, the United States and South Africa. She has participated in contemporary art shows such as Art Basel, Art Unlimited, KunstZurich, Armory Show, la Fiac, and Art Bruxelles.

In 2010 and 2011, the monographic exhibition “Pulsations,” retracing twenty years of creation, was shown at the Museum of Fine Arts of La Chaux-de-Fonds, at the Kunstmuseum in Lucerne and at the Centre d’Art Contemporain in Sète.

Gfeller’s art is inspired by urban themes, reconstructed by a fictional subjectivity that enjoys blurring the line between the real and the imaginary. By pulling from photography, video and sound installation, Catherine Gfeller creates truly imaginative universes that interpret our relationship with the modern world through forms of fragmented feelings, perceptions and thoughts.

In addition to art exhibitions, Catherine Gfeller is frequently invited to show at video festivals and conferences and workshops in various art schools and universities.

In 2013, she made her first film, “Words of artists / Portraits of artists.”
